We are currently accepting applications for an Assistant Principal of Student Life starting September 2024 for our Secondary Campus of 450+ students. The successful candidate will provide leadership around the various aspects of student life and well-being at our campus, as well as empower teachers in their work with students. She/he will report directly to the Secondary Campus principal and work collaboratively with both the Secondary Campus administrative team as well as the broader administrative team (principals and assistant principals from our elementary campus, the superintendent, director of learning, learning leader team, and director of learning support services) to provide leadership to the broader school community. The position will in involve approximately 50% teaching and 50% administrative time.
The successful candidate will be responsible for and/or help provide leadership in many of the following areas:
Student-Support
- Working on the ‘School Based Team’
- Walking with students, staff, and parents through conflict resolution
- Building a positive community within the school intentionally and proactively
- Using the ‘Restorative Framework’ to proactively build community, as well as reactively when things go wrong
- Attend grade level meetings and develop action items
Weekly Programs
- Providing leadership for chapel and assemblies
- Providing leadership for and coordinating Crew (these are weekly community building student groups).
General Leadership
- Running meetings
- Communicating with parents and guests
- Providing and participating in professional development and staff support
- Instructional Coaching
- Participating on committees
- Managing budgets and organizing schedule details
- Providing and participation in team building
Please provide evidence of the following criteria in your application:
Required:
- BC teaching certification (or the ability to hold such a certification)
- Master’s Degree (or working towards one)
- Demonstrated school leadership (committee chair, assistant principal, department chair, etc.)
- Evidence of positive relationships with students, faculty and staff, and parents through references and current leadership practices
- Evidence of strong written communication skills through quality of resume, and attachments
- Completed application package
- Involvement in a Christian church
Preferred:
- 5+ years teaching experience at the 8-12 grade levels
- Experience teaching/leading in a Christian school
- Any specialty training in assessment, curriculum and pedagogy, restorative practices, and the integration of technology in learning
- Knowledge of ‘21st century learning’
- Knowledge of best practices related to grade 8-12 curriculum, instruction, assessment, technology, and school community
