What makes Surrey Christian School unique?

One of the most important jobs as a parent is choosing the right school for your child. My husband and I wanted our daughter, Janan, to receive the strong foundation of Christian education, but our question was where? How could we decide? I visited a few schools with excellent reputations, but something held us back. So why did we choose Surrey Christian School?

What makes Surrey Christian School unique?

Our teachers spend considerable amount of time, effort and care into preparing for their classes. Through their unique deep hope and storyline, God is fully alive in every classroom with every learner, as they focus on intentional learning to create impactful learning opportunities for our students.

Our students engage in real work to meet real needs of real people. You see it from the moment you walk into the building, noticing their artifacts of learning all around. They are fully alive in God’s story… Classes are making tea towels to give away with a note of encouragement, raising money by doing bottle drives, building benches for the community, collecting food for various food banks, performing songs for seniors at retirement homes, and the list could go on. Our students are learning to be a Community Builder and so much more.

Our teachers are passionate and dedicated. I had the privilege of attending the Cohort Training provided to all new teachers this past August. I wanted to learn what our teachers go through so that I can share that with others. Led by Darryl DeBoer, Director of Learning, along with all the principals and learning leaders, our new teachers undergo in-depth 7-day training and continue with professional development throughout the year. Our teachers begin by connecting the mission and vision of Surrey Christian School to the curriculum. I was nervous, overwhelmed, but exhilarated by this experience. I participated in discussions, engaged in group work, and even developed my own deep hope and storyline for my new role. I came out of the training, inspired and excited to share. My own journey in encountering the uniqueness of Surrey Christian School began in 2017 when my daughter entered Kindergarten. I volunteered at the school, met many wonderful teachers, staff and families who all became an extension of my family. What better environment in which to grow and flourish?

My deep hope is to share our unique stories and invite our community to partner with us in becoming fully alive in God’s story.
