Your Family’s Journey
Starts Here…

Thank you for your interest in Surrey Christian School.  We are excited that you are considering partnering with us in this great adventure of Christian education. Our vision is to educate your child(ren) for wholeness by enabling them to engage God’s world in the servant way of Jesus.  This requires confidence that there is not one square inch of our world that does not belong to God, and that cannot be redeemed by the overwhelming power of His love.  We believe that each student is created in the image of God and has an important and unique role to play in bringing His redeeming love to the world around them.  It is a bold vision, but it is also very exciting and exceptionally worthwhile.

At Surrey Christian School teachers and staff are deeply committed and passionate about seeing students grow and develop, be challenged and also nurtured. A key distinction of our school is how we embed, articulate and promote our deep hope for our students and their learning. With all our curricular and co-curricular programs we ask ourselves “What is our deep hope for our students?”, what is it that we desire our students to learn, to become and grow into? This shapes our teaching and learning, decision-making, meetings, in fact it shapes everything we do. My personal deep hope for your child is that they would feel loved and accepted as they grow as individuals, they would realize their God given gifts and talents and see how they perfectly fit into God’s story. Here at Surrey Christian School we intentionally design a curriculum that fosters students’ ability to understand themselves and the world, in relation to the Bible. We endeavour to equip students to develop their ability to analyze contemporary issues with spiritual discernment and in the servant way of Jesus as they become students who are independent, adaptive and critically thinkers equipped to navigate life.

Come visit our campuses and I look forward to speaking with you, to imagine how your dreams for your children can be met through our vision of Christian education.

Superintendent

ADMISSIONS OVERVIEW

The Admissions Policy of Surrey Christian School provides guidance on assessing the eligibility of families or individuals wishing to enroll. This policy is rooted in and reflects the mission statement, constitution, and bylaws of Surrey Christian School. The goal is to ensure that applicants understand our community’s core values and expectations and admit those who can embrace and contribute to fulfilling the mission of SCS.

Surrey Christian School Admissions Policy

Early Learning Enrollment

Early Learning applications open on December 19 and the applications will be reviewed at the beginning of February.  Confirmation will be sent by February 15.   At Surrey Christian School Early Learning, we welcome children of all abilities, following our Admissions Priority. Our inclusive environment features developmentally appropriate practices, flexible routines, and collaboration with families and professionals to provide necessary adaptations and support.

NOTE: Please note that the acceptance into our Early Learning program does not guarantee enrollment in our Kindergarten program. Refer to the information below for details on Kindergarten enrollment.

Kindergarten Enrollment

Kindergarten applications open on November 1 and close on January 15. These applications are reviewed in January, with interviews conducted in February and acceptance letters sent by March 1. Children enrolling in Kindergarten must be five years old by December 31 of the enrollment year.

Grades 1 to 12 Enrollment

Applications for September enrollment in grades 1 – 12 are accepted beginning on the first working day of November and continue until the grade level is full for the following school year. Family interviews for students entering grades 1-12 begin in mid-February, once the deadline for current students to withdraw has passed, allowing the school to confirm available openings for new students.

Admissions Priority

Priority is given in the following order:

  1. Applications received before January 15 for Kindergarten before February 15 for all the other grades from:
    • Children who have siblings currently attending the school, children of staff members, children of alumni who are members of a Christian church, and children currently enrolled in the SCS Early Learning program from families who are members of a Christian church.
    • Students transferring from schools that are members of the Society of Christian Schools in BC.
    • Students transferring from other Christian schools.
    • Students from families who are members of a Christian church.
    • Children currently enrolled in the SCS Early Learning program from families who are not members of a Christian church but are deemed an appropriate fit with the vision and mission of SCS.
  2. Families who do not fall into any of the above categories but are deemed an appropriate fit with the vision and mission of SCS will be placed in a wait pool. Should space become available, our admissions team will contact you with the next steps.
  3. The school will accept a student with exceptionalities only if it believes it can provide a suitable educational program. In some instances, the school may decide that it lacks the resources to provide for children with diverse abilities. All relevant documentation must be received by February 28 to be considered for admission to the following year.
  4. Mid-year transfers from other schools will be handled case-by-case.

LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES (LSS)

The Learning Support Services (LSS) department at Surrey Christian School is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that supports students with diverse learning needs. Our team collaborates closely with families, teachers, and specialists to develop tailored educational plans that promote growth and success within our community. Guided by the school’s admissions policy, the LSS program strives to admit students who will benefit from our resources while maintaining a balanced environment that enables us to serve all students effectively. Through personalized support, our goal is to help each student achieve their full potential in a setting that respects their unique learning journey.

Learning Support Services Admissions:

If your child is currently receiving, or will require additional support:

  1. All relevant documentation must be received no later than February 28 to be considered for admission to the following school year. Applications received after that date will be given lower priority. Mid-year transfers will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
  2. If assessments are incomplete or Surrey Christian School deems documentation incomplete, arrangements and cost for the required testing are the parent’s responsibility. The application process will proceed once the school receives all the necessary testing/documentation.
  3. The director of learning support services will initially meet with parents when a family seeks to register a child with exceptionalities and will attend the admissions interview.
  4. After the interview, a decision will be made by the director of learning support services and the principal.
  5. The capacity of the current program, which includes students, education assistants (EAs) and coordinators, is considered when a new family applies. Surrey Christian School has a strong LSS program. It will only continue to be strong if we are aware of its limitations. Factors that are considered in making this decision include but are not limited to class size and composition, the number of students who require additional learning support at the grade, campus and system level, the school’s ability to meet the student’s needs based on the facilities and resources available, and the ability and availability of staff.
  6. Surrey Christian School reserves the right not to enroll or re-enroll students whose learning, behavioural, or social needs are best met by placement in a specialized setting (i.e., program/support as found in school district resource rooms) or a specialized education program. Surrey Christian School will support families in exploring alternative settings that would better serve the needs of the student(s).
