Stories of impact: Parents share their journey with us. Watch here.
This trip to England makes classical literature come alive for our Literature 12 students. They walk in the footsteps of celebrated British writers, experiencing the sights and sounds of London. They visit sites where works of well-known English literature were written, even reading Wordsworth’s “Lines Composed on Westminster Bridge” while standing on Westminster Bridge.
Our students also have the opportunity to visit various cities where famous writers grew up. They travel to Oxford University, where J.R.R. Tolkien & C.S. Lewis studied, wander the streets of Stratford-Upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare, and explore the Canterbury of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.
During their stay, the students attend theatre performances, including seeing a Shakespeare play performed at the open-air Globe Theatre, a replica of the Globe that stood there in Shakespeare’s day. They explore museums and literary landmarks such as the house where Shakespeare was born, the Charles Dickens Museum, St Paul’s Cathedral, and Westminster Abbey. Together they experience the history – the story – of some of the authors and literature they have studied in class.
